Description

This mural in Washington Heights was done by "Cekis" and "Remx" in 2009 on behalf of www.thejusticecommittee.org and www.peoplejustice.org. In Spanish and English it provides concrete advice on what to do if police attempt to search, detain, or arrest you.

In English:

• If you are arrested by a police officer, demand to speak with an attorney and don't tell them anything until an attorney is present.

• If you are harrassed by police, write down the officer's badge, car number, name or other identifying information.

En español:

• Usted NO tiene que estar de acuerdo con un chequeo de sí mismo, su carro o su casa. NO trate fisicamente de parar la policía. Solo diga que usted NO da permiso para el chequeo. Tienes el derecho de NO aceptarlo.

• Usted tiene el derecho de observar y filmar actividades policiales.
